Agree before tryouts

The coach and Athletic Director establish the number of sessions, roster size and evaluation process before advertising. Communicate the process and give students a reasonable opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. Retain evaluations securely.

Complete the process

Follow the agreed process. Consult the Athletic Director and administration before changing or shortening tryouts. Do not bypass the process to recruit preferred players. Communicate outcomes sensitively and offer feedback privately.

Younger and other school players

Administration must review any proposal involving younger or other school players against the exact district provisions and competition rules. Do not approach another school or its families without administrative direction. Recruitment cannot be used to displace eligible students in circumstances prohibited by policy.

Participation decisions

Coaches work with the Athletic Director and administration on eligibility and roster matters. Seek a school decision when policy or an exception is involved. The Team Startup Checklist records the process and approvals.
